JUBILEE

There's this phenomenon down here in the South, in Mobile Bay in our sweet home Alabama, that is only found one other place in the world, Tokyo Bay, Japan and we're here to tell y'all about it, so get them fishing poles ready!

At least once a year, sometimes more, the change in tides and temperatures cause an upward movement of hypoxic (low oxygen level) bottom waters forcing bottom-type fish, such as flounders, and crustaceans like our succulent blue crabs, ashore searching for oxygen.  Due to the lack of oxygen, these fish and shellfish cannot carry out normal muscular activities, such as swimming.  All them fishes, crabs and shrimps writhe and wriggle in all directions on shore and sandbars, free for the taking and although usually in the wee-hours of the morning, this still translates into some of the best - and sure easiest - fishing to be had!  The celebration of such easy pickin's was aptly named 'Jubilee'.

Back in the day (as our Pop-Pops would say), car horns would blare as people ran through the streets announcing that Jubilee had arrived!
